Overview Located in the Province of Chiriqui, Volcan Baru National Park covers 35,000 acres. Volcan Baru is known for its incredible landscape and the variety of exotic birds and animals unique to this area. You will see a mix of tropical rain forest and the volcanic landscape created thousands of years ago when the Baru Volcano erupted. The average temperature is around 20 degrees Celsius. How to Get From Panama City to Baru? David is a 6 hour drive from Panama City, or you could opt for a one hour flight. From David, Baru is just 40 minutes away by car. Just drive from David to Boquete and from there you can access the parks main entrance. What is There to do in Baru? The climate is wonderful here at Baru and makes for easy enjoyment. Like other National Parks in Panama you can hike trails, like Los Quetzales, and take in the habitat of the tropical rain forest. You can also take trails that lead to different craters of the Baru Volcano. You can hike the volcano on foot or drive up in a rugged four by four.You can still see the after effects of the last eruption all around you on the journey to the top of the volcano. At around 11,000 above sea level it is actually possible, with good weather, to see both the Atlantic ocean and the Pacific ocean. This makes it a truly unique place in the world and it is no wonder that this is one of the main tourist destinations in Panama. Fast flowing rivers run through the agricultural landscape and provide a perfect opportunity for rafting. Tourists love to go bird watching near Cerro Punto. A couple of particularly beautiful birds to see are the Quatezal and the Toucan.In the evenings you can enjoy the locally grown coffee.
From David you can rent a car and drive to Boquete and from there to the park. Both Boquete and David have many hotels and restaurants and all of the amenities you may need. Many tourists use David and Boquete as a center for their activities given the ideal proximity of these two cities to the National Parks.
