Day 1: Arriving in Panama City When you arrive at the airport we will meet you at the gate and take care of baggage and customs. We will take you to your hotel. Day 2: Metropolitan National Park Tour Be ready to leave at 6:30 AM for the Metropolitan Nature Park, which is perhaps the only rainforest within a major city in Central America. Even thought the park is in close proximity to the city there is still plenty of flora and fauna to be seen. Enjoy an excellent bird watching adventure as we look for Toucans, Parrots, Tanagers and Woodpeckers. You can spot other amazing animals such as Tamarin Monkeys and Sloth's as well as agouti's as you hike through the tropical rainforest. Day 3: Soberania National Park Tour Day 4: Chagres National Park Tour Day 5: Bird Watching on Achiote Road The fun begins early at 5:30 AM as you depart for Panama Canal Escobal and Achiote Road for some serious bird watching. You will follow the road to a site recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site called San Lorenzo. This is an old fort which was built in the sixteenth century at the mouth of the Chagres River. We will break for lunch and then head to Gatun Locks. Day 6: Chiriqui Highlands Tour We will take you from Colon City to the Canopy Tower at 8:00 AM. The Canopy Tower has an observation deck allowing for close up views of bird you might not otherwise get the chance to see from the forest floor. Catch a glimpse of the Green Shrike-Vireo or the Yellow-Crowned Tyrannulet. After a lunch break you will head to Summit Ponds in the Chagres river flood zone to get in a little more birding. You will then finally move on to Albrook airfield where your flight to David departs at 4:00 PM. Remember to travel light as the weight limit is only 25 pounds per person. Day 7: Volcan Baru National Park Tour First you travel to Cerro Punta and tour the area of Finca Spaulding and El Respingo for starters. This particular area is known for the quetzal, the silky flycatcher, and the volcano hummingbird to name a few. You will be hiking most of the Los Quetzales trail which runs between Boquete and Cerro Punta. Cerro Punta lies on the western side of the famous Baru Volcano and Boquete lies on the eastern side. The trail takes you through some of the most pristine areas of the protected forest featuring breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The trail is officially recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and offers top notch bird watching. Day 8: Amistad National Park Tour Panama shares with Costa Rica the Amistad International Biosphere Reserve which contains seven of the twelve classified life zones. It is also home to three different Indian tribes and is a World Heritage Site. Quetzal and Harpy Eagles inhabit this area. We will start with an early breakfast before we begin our quetzal spotting adventure. You can access Amistad from Cerro Punta and Boca del Toro. Day 9: Finca Hartman This is a new birding destination residing between the highlands and the foothills of the western mountain range. It lies in the western region of Santa Clara and Finca Hartman. You will return to David after lunch to fly back to Panama City. Day 10: Departure Be sure to get to the airport two full hours before your plane is scheduled to depart. For more information call: |
